I have been remiss in reporting - sometimes life gets in the way.   We briefly discussed how our Yontif went, and then our usual: Word of the Day- Grok   https://www.merriam-webster. com/word-of-the-day Yiddish Word –Beginnings:   https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=oGyxoy7dWJM In late August, Reesa attended a fibre art workshop at Hudson Valley Art Workshop in Greenville (Hudson Valley).  The instructor was Deborah Fell.  There are youtube videos of her showing some of her techniques. Reesa had already shared with her some of the things she learned and today she again shared for those of us who missed it the first time.  We saw some of her and the other participants work, based on materials and instructions provided. An idea was floated to perhaps do a mini-workshop with Reesa sharing hands-on what she had learned, especially pertaining to painting and printing with fusible (wonder-under-ish). Gwen informed us that Beth Tikvah synagogue will ...

I have to apologize - I missed parts of the opening as my machine repair guy was online with me. We started with; Word of the Day- Pontificate   https://www.merriam-webster. com/word-of-the-day Yiddish Word – Yom Kippur:   https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=T1eAcJlkxiU What Day Is It: https://nationaldaycalendar. com/what-day-is-it/ Elaine G. talked about kreplach.  She said that she uses the recipe in Second Helpings or the food processor book.  Then she talked about the Jewish connection to kreplach (which are also known in other cultures by different names).    I found the below link from Chabad with info about when kreplach are eaten and why.  https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/1638318/jewish/What-Are-Kreplach.htm And a humourous song about Kreplach: Kreplach Song:   https://yivosounds.com/2010/ 08/10/sometimes-you%E2%80% 99ve-just-gotta-laugh/ We listened to a version of  Untaneh Tokef, in advance of Yom Kippur. ...

Not too many links today. We actually chatted a bit among friends.  Heather who has been away for quite a while joined us. We talked about our member, Bev Borins, who recently passed away. Then we went to our Word of the Day- Fallible    https://www.merriam-webster. com/word-of-the-day , followed by the Yiddish Word of the Day- Eating & Overeating:   https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=l7xtpDA3zqI . Laya Crust walked us through the Haftorot for Rosh Hashana and showed us her illuminations of same. Elaine Genesove gave a talk on gefilte fish.  Although fish is eaten for Shabbat (and holidays) by both Ashkenazim and Sepharadim, gefilte fish is unique to the east European Jews.  She referred to the "gefilte fish line", a geographical divide between those who eat sweet fish and savoury fish.a Elaine talked about the biblical and talmudic references to fish and why the eating of fish is such an important custom.           ...

Shirley has forwarded me links so it should be easier for readers to see the sites and clips to which we were guided. The word of the day was "ingenuous". Word of the Day    https://www.merriam- webster.com/word-of-the-day There was a reference in the word of the day to "sealioning". I was unable to attend today's meeting - other commitments. The meeting was led by Reesa who talked about her experience taking a fibre arts workshop at the Hudson River Valley  Art Workshops: www.artworkshops.com. The instructor was Deborah Fell: www.deborahfell.com. Sorry about the lack of information but if you visit both websites, you can get an idea of what was discussed and shown.

Pre-amble and Challenge

A POM member who is unable to join the Lunch and Shmooze meetings during the day asked if it would be possible to record them.  Unfortunately, for privacy reasons, technical reasons, and lack of womanpower to do so,  POM is unable to do so.  Ideally, a blog could resolve the issue.  Again, no one on the POM executive is willing to undertake this commitment.  It means being at both the Tuesday and Thursday meetings, taking notes, putting those notes into a blog. As someone who, until just before my retirement, was unable to participate in daytime POM activities thereby missing out on group projects and the shmooze aspect of the POM, I decided that I will try to do a brief synopsis of what occurred at each L&S meeting.  I will leave out anything of a delicate or private nature (i.e. if someone is ill, bad news shared, etc. but will try to summarize what was talked about, links (if available) or ideas to google if something without a link was mentioned, et...
