Not too many links today.
We actually chatted a bit among friends. Heather who has been away for quite a while joined us.
We talked about our member, Bev Borins, who recently passed away.
Then we went to our Word of the Day- Fallible https://www.merriam-webster.
followed by the Yiddish Word of the Day- Eating & Overeating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
Laya Crust walked us through the Haftorot for Rosh Hashana and showed us her illuminations of same.
Elaine Genesove gave a talk on gefilte fish. Although fish is eaten for Shabbat (and holidays) by both Ashkenazim and Sepharadim, gefilte fish is unique to the east European Jews. She referred to the "gefilte fish line", a geographical divide between those who eat sweet fish and savoury fish.a
Elaine talked about the biblical and talmudic references to fish and why the eating of fish is such an important custom.
And we closed with another version of Achat Sha'alati:
Rising Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?
On Thursday, we will discuss Rosh Hashana food traditions, so if you have recipes, memories, or anecdotes, please send them to info@pomegranate guild.
